O'Hare International is the 'World's Busiest' airport handling more passengers and aircraft operations than any airport in the world. Fire protection is provided by the 12th Battalion of the Chicago Fire Department which operates from three 'Rescue Stations' at O'Hare strategically located to minimize response time on the field. The on-shift compliment of the 12th Battalion is 41 firefighters, officers, and paramedics on duty 24 hours a day. Equipment at O'Hare consist of six Oshkosh 'T-3000' ARFF vehicles, each carrying 3185 gallons of water and 410 gallons of AFFF; two Pierce Lance 2000 gpm pumpers, each carrying 1000 gallons of water and 150 gallons of AFFF; one Pierce Lance 100 ft. Tower Ladder with rescue basket; a two-piece squad company with heavy duty rescue truck and GMC 'Hummer' 2nd unit; an International/LDV Communications Command Vehicle and three fully equipped advanced life support ambulances.
